Happy Belated Fathers Day- Part One: Featuring Mama Elephant’s Playful Pups and Bella Letters

Hey Crafty Friends!

I hope all of you guys out there enjoyed your Fathers Day. Mine was very eventful and full of the wonderful men in my life. I’d love to show you the cards I made for them! Let’s take a look, shall we?

The Card Front

The first card I will be showing you was for my father-in-law. He has a Frenchie, so the Frenchie from the Playful pups stamp set fit the bill perfectly! I stamped it and the bowl and ball on some Copic friendly paper and got to coloring.

French Bulldog colors:

  • 0
  • E00
  • W1
  • B12
  • R24

Ball Colors:

  • YG01
  • Y06

Bowl Colors:

  • C1
  • R24
  • R27
  • E31
  • E35
  • E37

I fussy cut out all of the little objects, including the dog and went around the edges with a Copic Multi-liner small brush pen so the images looked a little more finished.

Using the Grassy Trio die from Mama Elephant, I die cut the grass that this cutie was sitting on out of some green patterned paper scraps that I had in my stash.

I also die cut a scalloped square for his frame. On the frame I stamped “Everyone Has a Father” to go along with the sentiment I was adding the inside which says “I Have the Best” from the Bella Letters. I think a letter stamp set like this is so versatile because you can use it to make so many different sentiments that fit pretty much everywhere.

I added the frame and the little cut outs on the card front with some foam tape.

For the finishing touches, I added some glossy accents to the letter the Frenchie is holding and the bone on the bowl. I also added some silver gel pen to the spikes on his collar.

The Card Base

I used some Simon Says Stamp navy colored card stock for my base which was perfect because it doubled as my blue sky. I love this card stock because it’s so sturdy!

As always, I added my “handmade by cindy” stamp to the back of the card, since it was being given as a personal card.

Hindsight is 20/20

I used some Hero Arts Unicorn white pigment ink on the inside of the card base, which ended up being a fail. I had never stamped with it before, so I didn’t know how it would behave. It turns out that my ink pad has very thick ink and got in-between the small letters and make the sentiment look less than desirable. I ended up covering it with the white scalloped square that was cut from the front and stamping it with the same red to match the front.

Overall, I was very happy with this card. I hope you enjoyed seeing it and have a wonderful rest of your day!

Some of the supplies I used are listed below and as always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

Simon Says Stamp Haul- May 2015

Hey guys! I’m back with another post on a super awesome haul from an absolutely amazing company, Simon Says Stamp.

Please note: These items were given to me as a gift, but that does not affect my opinion of them.

First up is some awesome dye ink. I received the following colors:

  • Lavender
  • Orange Peel
  • Audrey Blue
  • Fern
Top Row (Left to Right): Lavender, Orange Peel Bottom Row (Left to Right): Audrey Blue, Fern

Top Row (Left to Right): Lavender, Orange Peel
Bottom Row (Left to Right):
Audrey Blue, Fern

I was really impressed with how well the packaging is true to the color inside. Please note though that when you shop online, the color you see on your screen may not be exactly what you get.

Dye is ink that get absorbed into the paper. I noticed with this specific dye ink by Simon Says Stamp that the ink starts off looking not solid. Freak out moment! But over time, the image gets more solid. Score! Another thing to point out with any dye ink is that since the ink is absorbed into the paper, it will be a little lighter than originally stamped. I was happy that the colors of the Simon Says Stamp colors did not go dull though after being absorbed.

Fun Fact: The lids of these inks actually snap shut. I learned this the hard way when I tried to put them away without snapping them first and the lids popped off!

Next up were some super cute stamp sets from Simon Says Stamp. The first one is called Slumber Party, with the matching die set Girls Night Out.

The images in this stamp set will be perfect for coloring. The matching die set cuts out all of images in this stamp set and the sentiments would be perfect for a slumber party or an invite for a girls night out with friends.

The next stamp set is called Road Trip with a coordinating die set called On the Road.

Please note that this is a coordinating die set, not a matching die set. So this die will not match the images in this stamp set, but it does work with it. The die set makes a good frame for the images like the station wagon and the luggage and the bottom section of the frame would hold the sentiments perfectly!

Then we have some super cool stencils that I am ridiculously excited about. I can’t wait to play with them!

Both of the stencils I’m showing are 6×6 which means they will be very easy to use on a standard size A2 card front whether you’re making a landscape or top folding card. The first one is Tiny Spaced Hearts. These tiny hearts would be perfect for so many backgrounds. You could use regular inks and a dauber, or even some distress inks to make a well blended background with several colors.

Here’s a close up of those tiny hearts:

The next stencil is called Harlequin. This stencil has some nice big designs that would be great for some embossing paste.

Because the designs are so big, I would definitely recommend taping down all of the sides and workings from the larger parts of the stencil outwards. This will keep the the stencil from sliding on you when you are applying your ink.

Last but certainly not least is some card stock from Simon Says Stamp. I received the Daybreak pack of card stock.

If you are wanting to try card stock from a company that you are unsure about, I would definitely recommend trying a sample pack with different color choices. This pack has the following colors:

  • Lemon Chiffon
  • Lavender
  • Soft Navy
  • Burnt Orange
  • Fog
  • Smoke
  • Slate

There are three great gray colors in this sample pack, which is a great way to test them out with the inks I already have before committing to one gray over another.

Another wonderful thing about this card stock is that it is 100 lb. weight. This makes it super sturdy and perfect for card bases! I can’t wait to try this card stock out.

Joann’s Haul

I’ve been working to beef up my craft room because crafting is so much more fun when you have the right tools. I’m definitely not saying you need everything out there, but having some essentials on hand is so helpful!

I hit an awesome sale at Joann’s where all of the paper crafting supplies were 50% off! Score!

Entire Haul from Joann’s

I knew I wanted some Perfect Pearls pigment powder. I will be playing with some watercolor techniques and spraying techniques in the future. This will give my water for these techniques that perfect pearl shine.IMG_4557

I have some of the basic colors of embossing powders in my stash, but there have been a couple on my wish list. They were the following colors:

  • Pink
  • Liquid Platinum
  • Enchanted Gold

Can’t wait to try all of them out!

I’ve been looking for interesting embellishments. I think Stickles may help bring some different looks to my coloring. I got some basic colors:

  • Platinum (to match the Liquid Platinum embossing Powder)
  • Glam Pink
  • Star Dust

I would like to start adding dimensional embellishments and I originally was looking for some enamel dots. But why have a limited amount of them, when you can create as many as you want from a bottle? My thoughts exactly. I’m trying out the Paper Pen to see if I can get some good dimensional interest for my cards. IMG_4562

I have been loving some of the spray backgrounds recently. I’m think of getting some re-inkers to add to these mini misters or using them with water and the distress backgrounds. Who knows?

Every good card needs some good envelopes. I got these basic white A2 envelopes and I have been decorating them to match the card designs. The possibilities are endless.

I also got some water color paper that is cut to 4.25 by 5.5, which will be perfect for a card from. Can’t wait to get out some watercolors and play!

No crafting area is complete without an area to work on. I got craft mat, which is a non-porous area. It’ll be great for coloring, blending, mixing, and doing all sorts of fun crafty stuff on. Plus is will protect my desk. IMG_4566

Last but certainly not least is my collection of Mini Distress Inks. I also chose the tins to store them in to keep my workplace tidy, but they also stack very nicely.

Below are all of colors available online at Joann’s: IMG_4567 IMG_4568 IMG_4569 IMG_4570

I hope you enjoyed your look at my shopping trip I made online. Keep an eye out for information on sales and such. I will try to keep you posted so you can score some great deals as well!
